Luis Doreste Silva or Plaza de la Feria?

In Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the bare number and the papers for Europeans and card holders are listed at two police addresses. Three newcomers show why.

Picture three newcomers on the same Monday. Ana, from Portugal, has a hotel contract and needs her green certificate. Kwame, from Ghana, has a residence authorisation and needs his TIE card. Lars, from Denmark, is buying a flat and only needs the number. In Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, two of them will sit in the same waiting room. The third will be at another address.

Calle Luis Doreste Silva 68 is the address where the police directory places the NIE itself. On a booking you may see it as “Comisaría de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Centro”, the name the police e-office gives it. Its entry also covers return authorisations, invitation letters, nationality reports, extensions of stay, asylum and travel documents. This is Lars’s stop: a buyer who lives abroad requests just the number, on form EX-15.

Plaza de la Feria 24 is the address for Ana and Kwame. The directory gives it four things: the régimen comunitario, which covers the green certificate for EU citizens, the issue of TIE cards, students and non-lucrative residence. Ana brings her EX-18 and her contract. Kwame brings his EX-17, his passport, his resolution, a photo and the paid fee.

Why does it matter? Because the booking system asks for a procedure first and shows offices second. If Ana books the bare NIE because “everybody needs a NIE”, she ends up with an appointment for the wrong procedure, and her contract does not change that. The certificate she really needs carries the number anyway.

A third address sometimes enters the story: the Oficina de Extranjería on Plaza de la Concordia 5. It is not a police office. It decides on permits to live and work, reagrupación familiar, arraigo, and the EX-19 cards of Europeans’ families. Its own page says that the NIE, the TIE and the EU certificate are done at police offices.

The short version for the city, then: the number alone at Luis Doreste Silva, Europeans and cards at Plaza de la Feria, permits at Plaza de la Concordia. If your case does not fit neatly into one of those, drop us a short note before you book rather than after.
