For citizens of the rest of the world
Leaving the island while your card is being renewed
If your card has expired while a renewal is pending, or your first card is not ready yet, you need an autorización de regreso (return authorisation) to come back into Spain after a trip. In Las Palmas it is listed at Calle Luis Doreste Silva 68 and at the Oficina de Extranjería, Plaza de la Concordia 5. Ask for it before you fly, not from abroad.
Ask for help about this procedure; we reply by email
When the regreso is needed
- The renewal is filed, the old card has run out, and no decision has arrived yet
- The card was lost, stolen or broken, and its replacement is on its way
- Your first residence was granted, and the card is still being made
What to prepare
- The application for the return authorisation
- Your passport, with a copy
- Evidence that a procedure is under way: your renewal receipt, your resolution, or the denuncia (police report) for a missing card
- A reason for the trip, if the office wants one
- The 790-012, paid
Two addresses in Las Palmas
In the police directory, autorizaciones de regreso appear in the entry for Calle Luis Doreste Silva 68 (928 304 667). The Delegación del Gobierno’s page names them too, among the matters of the Oficina de Extranjería, Plaza de la Concordia 5 (928 999 260). Neither Plaza de la Feria nor the police stations of the south have them.
Two sources, two addresses: let the booking decide. Book, then go where the booking confirmation sends you.
Timing
Apply the moment a trip becomes likely. This paper has its own appointment and a limited validity, so compare its dates with your flights before you pay for them. It covers the journey, nothing more: for everyday life you still need the card, which form EX-17 requests.
Questions
Do EU citizens need this?
No. A European passport or ID card is all an EU citizen needs to come and go; the green certificate is not a travel document.
May I travel on my visa while my first TIE is made?
Yes, while it is valid: a visa that is still in date lets you re-enter. If it runs out before the card is ready, ask for the return authorisation.
Can I change planes in another Schengen country on the way?
Check first: it is a Spanish document, made for re-entering Spain. A stopover in another country is a separate matter: ask the airline and check that country’s rules before you fly.
