Your TIE on Gran Canaria: fingerprints first, the card after

Non-EU residents get their TIE, the Tarjeta de Identidad de Extranjero, in two visits: first the toma de huellas, with form EX-17 handed in and your fingerprints taken at Plaza de la Feria 24, Maspalomas or Santa Lucía de Tirajana; then a second visit to collect the card. You book the fingerprints once your visa or authorisation is granted and you are on the island.

The order of things

  • Your visa or authorisation is granted, abroad or in Spain
  • You reserve a toma de huellas, a fingerprint appointment, in the province of Las Palmas
  • Form EX-17 is filled in, and the 790-012 paid under the TIE box
  • At the appointment, an officer takes your fingerprints and gives you a resguardo, a receipt
  • Later you return to pick up the finished card; some offices give a separate appointment for that

The clock starts when you arrive

If you came to Spain on a visa for residence, or for a stay of more than six months, the card must be requested within a month of entering the country. For an authorisation granted to someone already living in Spain, the month counts from the notification. Either way, book the huellas in your first days on the island.

What the officer will want to see

  • The EX-17, signed
  • Passport (with the visa page, if you entered on one) and a photocopy
  • A recent colour photo, passport size, white background
  • The 790-012, paid
  • If your authorisation was decided in Spain: the resolution
  • A padrón certificate: some offices want one as proof of address

Huellas TIE Las Palmas: three places on the island

In the city, the police directory places the issue of TIE cards at Plaza de la Feria 24 (928 999 281), together with students and non-lucrative residence. Calle Luis Doreste Silva, the city’s address for the bare number, does not have TIE cards in its entry.

In the south, the Comisaría de Maspalomas, Avenida de Moya 4 (928 730 447), and the Comisaría de Santa Lucía de Tirajana both handle the TIE. For someone living in Playa del Inglés, Vecindario or Mogán, that can spare the journey to the capital.

When the card is renewed

A renewed authorisation means a renewed card, with a fresh EX-17, a fresh fee and another set of fingerprints. Planning a trip while the new card is being produced? Check the return authorisation first.

Questions

Does the TIE apply to British residents?

Yes. The United Kingdom left the EU, so its citizens are treated as non-EU nationals here. Residents covered by the Withdrawal Agreement carry a TIE that refers to it.

Can my partner and I share one appointment?

No: each person has their own card, their own fingerprints and their own booking. You can try to book two times close together.

Huellas TIE Las Palmas: can I go to Luis Doreste Silva?

No: TIE cards are not in the entry for Luis Doreste Silva. In the city they belong to Plaza de la Feria 24; in the south, to Maspalomas and Santa Lucía de Tirajana.

What is the resguardo for?

It is the receipt you get after your fingerprints. It shows that your card is in process, and you need it when you collect the card, so keep it safe.
